New FitMums-To-Be classes

11 August - don't miss out!

The fabulous Jenny Tiffen from Canberra FitMums is launching a wonderful new set of classes for pregnant women - specifically targeting mums in the older age bracket... FitMums-to-be.

Following the national trend to have babies later in life, these fabulous new exercise classes cater to older mums-to-be, offering the best in care for those giving birth in their mid 30s and 40s.

A recent study presented in Amsterdam at the European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology conference by Dr Catherine McMahon, found that older mothers (late 30s/early 40s) who give birth for the first time cope just as well with the physical demands of pregnancy as younger women. However, these mothers did worry more about the wellbeing of their unborn baby.

“No matter their age, most mothers worry about whether their baby will be born healthy,” says FitMums founder, Jenny Tiffen. “Books, articles and television stories about the complications associated with being an older mum all contribute to increase a woman’s anxiety, but experts say that a mother’s health is more important than age when it comes to having a healthy baby.”

“Many of the more uncomfortable pregnancy side-effects like cramps, constipation, aches and pains, insomnia and even headaches, respond well to gentle exercise,” she adds.

“There are also benefits to the baby. When done appropriately, gentle exercise raises the level of oxygen in the bloodstream which lifts the oxygen levels in the baby’s blood. At a time when the baby is growing all those important organs and limbs and developing nerve and brain cells, extra oxygen is a great way to encourage healthy development,” says Jenny.

Last month, Canberra FitMums held a free pregnancy seminar to test the water on this new market. The session was a huge success, with over 28 memberships sold on the day.

To celebrate the launch of FitMums-to-be, you can come along to the first sesson on 11 August - for free! RSVP now to reserve a place.

To RSVP, and for more info on class times and memberships, contact Jenny on 0411 112 464 or email Canberra FitMums. Sessions will continue on Tuesdays at Wesley Uniting Church during the daytime and a new night time session will begin in the coming weeks to accommodate the working mum-to-be.
